Week of March 17, 2014

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope you all had a nice, relaxing break and all the children enjoyed it.  I had a nice time relaxing and spending time with my family.  It was nice to come back and see all your darling children today.

With the beginning of the 4th quarter, we will also be starting new units.

Literature/Reading: We will start reading My Father's Dragon today in reading groups.  This is a fun book that I think all of the kids will really enjoy.  We will also be studying the fun poem "I Know All the Sounds that the Animals Make" and reading the book "Duck on a Bike" this week.  Both of these will be really fun for the kids to read.

History: In history, we will be starting our unit on Exploration to the West.  We will start the week learning about Daniel Boone and why he was an important explorer.  At the end of the week we will learn about the Louisiana Purchase and why that purchase was so important for the United States.

Science: We are starting our unit on Earth Science this week.  We will be using the book Planet Earth/Inside Out all week as we learn about the earth.   We will learn about the layers of the earth, the tectonic plates and how they move, and end the week talking about different land forms found on the earth.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Spring Music Concert which will be taking place on March 25 at Grace Community Church.  All first graders will need to be checked in by 5:15 with the concert starting at 5:30.
